🕯️ VOICES IN THE SHELTER

 🕯️ VOICES IN THE SHELTER

🕯️Page 1 – The Door That Closed

The rain was falling like a curtain of silver needles, hitting the ground with a rhythm that sounded almost like whispers. Arda, Sezen, and Mert stood in front of the old shelter hidden behind the forest. The entrance looked ancient — a heavy iron door covered with rust and moss.

“Are you sure this is the place?” Sezen asked, pulling her jacket tighter. Her voice trembled slightly.

Arda nodded. “It’s the one from the map. The shelter was built during the war. Nobody’s been here for decades.”

Mert laughed nervously. “Perfect place for a horror story.”

They pushed the door together. It groaned like a wounded animal before opening. Inside, the air was thick and cold, smelling of metal and forgotten time. Their flashlights cut through the darkness, revealing cracked walls and broken pipes.

Then, without warning, the door slammed shut behind them — BANG! The echo rolled through the corridor like thunder.

Sezen jumped. “Did you lock it?”

“No,” Arda whispered. “It closed by itself.”

The three of them stared at the door. It didn’t move. The silence that followed was heavier than the air itself.

Mert tried to pull it open, but it wouldn’t budge. “It’s stuck,” he said, breathing fast.

Arda looked around. “We’ll find another way out. There must be an emergency exit somewhere.”

But deep inside, none of them believed it. The shelter had swallowed them whole.

The corridor stretched into darkness, its walls sweating with moisture. Drops of water fell from the ceiling, echoing like a slow heartbeat. The three friends walked carefully, their flashlights cutting narrow paths through the shadows. Every step felt heavier, as if the shelter itself wanted to keep them inside.

Sezen hugged her arms around her body. “It’s so cold here,” she whispered. Her voice sounded small, almost swallowed by the silence.

Arda tried to stay calm. “It’s just an old building. Don’t let your imagination trick you.”

But then it happened. A faint sound drifted through the air — soft, broken, almost like a sigh.

“Do not trust the light…”

The words were so quiet that they seemed to come from inside their own heads. Sezen froze, her eyes wide. “Did you hear that?” she asked, her voice trembling.

Mert swung his flashlight toward the corner. The beam revealed nothing but cracked concrete and a pile of old boxes. “There’s nobody here,” he said, though his voice lacked confidence.

The whisper came again, longer this time, stretching like smoke:

“Do not trust the light…”

Arda’s heart raced. He tried to laugh, but it sounded hollow. “Maybe it’s the wind. Or… or the pipes.”

Sezen shook her head. “No. That was a voice.”

The three of them stood still, listening. The silence pressed against their ears, heavy and suffocating. Then, from somewhere deeper inside the shelter, a metallic sound echoed — like something dragging across the floor.

Mert swallowed hard. “We should go back.”

Arda looked at the closed door behind them. “We can’t. We’re trapped.”

Sezen ’s flashlight flickered for a moment, the beam shrinking and growing like a dying star. She gasped. “What if the whisper is right? What if the light isn’t safe?”

The corridor seemed to breathe with them, alive and waiting.

📻 Page 3 – The Radio

The corridor opened into a wider chamber, its ceiling low and covered with pipes that dripped water like tears. The smell of rust and mold was stronger here, making Sezen cough. Their flashlights revealed broken chairs, a dusty table, and piles of forgotten papers scattered across the floor.

On the table stood an old radio, its surface covered with dust and scratches. The antenna was bent, and the knobs looked fragile, but the radio was alive. A faint static noise filled the room, like the sound of insects crawling inside their ears.

Arda stepped closer, shining his flashlight on it. The radio suddenly spoke:

“Do not trust the light…”

The words were clear this time, sharp and cold. Sezen gasped, covering her mouth. “It’s the same voice,” she whispered.

Mert frowned. “This doesn’t make sense. How can a radio work down here? There’s no electricity.”

Arda touched the knob, trying to turn it off. The knob broke in his hand, falling to the floor with a metallic clink. The radio hissed louder, the static growing until it felt like the walls themselves were vibrating.

Sezen backed away. “Stop it, Arda! Don’t touch it!”

But the radio continued, repeating the same sentence again and again:

“Do not trust the light… Do not trust the light…”

The words echoed through the chamber, bouncing off the walls like a curse.

Mert grabbed the radio, shaking it. “Who’s speaking? What do you want?” he shouted.

The radio answered with silence, then a long, broken sigh.

Arda looked at the others, his face pale. “This isn’t just a machine. Someone — or something — is trying to warn us.”

Sezen’s flashlight flickered again, the beam shrinking. She stared at it, her hands trembling. “Maybe the light really is dangerous. Maybe we shouldn’t use them.”

Mert shook his head. “Without light, we’re blind. We’ll never find a way out.”

The radio hissed once more, then went silent. The chamber felt heavier, as if the air itself was waiting for their decision.

Vocabulary:

  • chamber = oda, bölüm

  • mold = küf

🗝️ Page 4 – The Locked Box

The silence after the radio’s last hiss was unbearable. It felt as if the shelter itself was holding its breath, waiting for them to make a move. Arda’s flashlight swept across the table again, and that was when Sezen noticed something half-hidden under a pile of dusty papers.

“Wait,” she said, pulling the papers aside. Beneath them was a small metal box, heavy and cold to the touch. Its surface was covered with strange symbols, carved deep into the steel. Some looked like letters, others like shapes from a forgotten language.

Mert leaned closer, his eyes narrowing. “What is this? A puzzle?”

Sezen traced one of the carvings with her finger. To her surprise, it felt warm, almost alive. She pulled her hand back quickly. “It’s not just decoration. These symbols mean something.”

Arda lifted the box carefully. It was locked tight, with no visible keyhole. The weight of it made his arms ache. “Whatever’s inside… someone wanted to keep it hidden.”

The three of them sat around the table, staring at the box. The radio remained silent, but the air seemed thicker, charged with invisible tension.

Mert tried to shake it. “Maybe it’s empty.”

But as he did, a faint metallic sound came from inside — like something small shifting. Sezen’s eyes widened. “No. There’s something in there.”

Arda placed the box back on the table. “We need to open it. Maybe it’s the key to understanding what’s happening here.”

Sezen shook her head. “Or maybe it’s a trap. The radio warned us. What if opening it is exactly what we’re not supposed to do?”

The box seemed to pulse in the dim light, its symbols glowing faintly as if responding to their voices. Mert reached for it again, but the moment his fingers touched the carvings, the shelter echoed with footsteps.

They froze. The sound was clear — someone was walking in the corridor outside the chamber. Slow, deliberate steps, moving closer.

Arda whispered, “We’re not alone.”

The footsteps stopped just outside the door. Silence followed, heavy and suffocating. Then, a single knock echoed through the chamber.

Vocabulary:

  • unbearable = dayanılmaz

  • carving = oyma

  • faint = hafif/zayıf

  • suffocating = boğucu

🚪 Page 5 – The Secret Passage

The knock on the chamber door echoed like a drumbeat, then faded into silence. None of them dared to move. Sezen’s breathing was fast and shallow, her eyes fixed on the door. Mert clenched his fists, trying to look brave, but his hands trembled. Arda whispered, “Don’t make a sound.”

Minutes passed, though they felt like hours. Finally, the silence was broken by a faint tearing noise. Sezen turned her flashlight toward the wall, and that was when she saw it: one of the old posters was moving slightly, as if stirred by a hidden draft.

She stepped closer, pulling the poster away. Behind it was a narrow crack in the wall, just wide enough for a person to slip through. The air that came from inside was colder, carrying the smell of rust and dust.

Arda’s eyes widened. “A passage. Maybe this is the way out.”

Mert shook his head. “Or maybe it’s where the footsteps came from.”

Sezen didn’t wait. She squeezed through the crack, her flashlight trembling in her hand. The passage was narrow, forcing her to walk sideways. The walls were wet, and drops of water slid down like tears. Every sound echoed — their footsteps, their breathing, even the pounding of their hearts.

As they moved deeper, the light from the chamber faded behind them. The passage seemed endless, twisting like a snake. At one point, Sezen’s flashlight flickered again, and she gasped. “It’s dying,” she whispered.

Arda tried to encourage her. “Keep going. We’ll find something at the end.”

Finally, the passage opened into another chamber. This one was larger, with walls covered in peeling paint. On the far wall, written in red letters, was a message:

“Only the brave will survive.”

The words glowed faintly in the flashlight beams, as if painted with something more than ordinary paint.

Mert stepped closer, reading the message aloud. His voice echoed, bouncing back at them. “Only the brave will survive…”

Sezen shivered. “It feels like the shelter is testing us.”

Arda nodded slowly. “Then we have to prove we’re brave. Otherwise, we won’t make it out alive.”

The chamber fell silent again, but the words on the wall seemed to pulse, alive and watching.

Vocabulary:

  • draft = hava akımı

  • squeeze through = aradan sığarak geçmek

  • peeling paint = dökülen boya

🔮 Page 6 – The Box Awakens

The words on the wall — “Only the brave will survive” — echoed in their minds long after the sound had faded. The chamber felt alive, as if the shelter itself was listening. Arda turned his flashlight toward the center of the room, and there it was again: the box. Somehow, it had followed them. Or perhaps, it had always been here, waiting.

Sezen gasped. “How… how did it get here?”

Mert shook his head. “We left it in the other chamber. This doesn’t make sense.”

Arda approached carefully. The box looked the same — heavy, metallic, covered in strange carvings. But now, the symbols glowed faintly, pulsing like veins under skin. He reached out, hesitating. “It wants us to open it.”

Sezen grabbed his arm. “No! The radio warned us. What if this is the trap?”

The box emitted a low hum, vibrating against the floor. The sound grew louder, filling the chamber with a strange energy. Their flashlights flickered, beams shrinking and stretching unnaturally.

Mert clenched his jaw. “We can’t just stand here. If this is the test, then opening it is the only way forward.”

Arda looked at him. “And if it kills us?”

Sezen’s eyes filled with fear. “Then maybe that’s what the shelter wants. Maybe bravery means refusing temptation.”

The hum grew louder, shaking the walls. Dust fell from the ceiling. The words on the wall glowed brighter, as if urging them to decide.

Arda placed his hands on the box. It was warm, almost burning. The carvings shifted under his fingers, rearranging themselves into new shapes. Suddenly, the lock clicked.

The box opened slowly, revealing a small crystal inside. It glowed with pure white light, illuminating the chamber. The glow was beautiful, almost holy.

But then, the radio’s voice returned, louder than ever:

“Do not trust the light!”

The crystal pulsed, brighter and brighter, until the chamber was filled with blinding radiance. Sezen screamed, dropping her flashlight. Mert shielded his eyes. Arda stared at the crystal, unable to look away.

The shelter trembled, alive and furious.

🌌 Page 7 – The Light’s Curse

The crystal’s glow filled the chamber, brighter than any flashlight. At first, it seemed beautiful — pure, clean, almost comforting. The walls reflected the light, turning the damp shelter into a shining cathedral of white. Sezen lowered her hands, mesmerized. “It’s… it’s beautiful,” she whispered.

But beauty quickly turned into terror. The glow grew stronger, too strong, burning their eyes. Shadows twisted unnaturally, stretching across the walls like living creatures. The air grew hot, heavy, and the shelter trembled as if it were alive.

Mert shielded his face. “Turn it off! Close the box!”

Arda tried, but the box refused to shut. The crystal pulsed violently, sending waves of light across the chamber. Each pulse carried a sound — faint whispers, hundreds of voices speaking at once.

“Do not trust the light… Do not trust the light…”

Sezen dropped to her knees, covering her ears. “It’s inside my head!” she cried.

The light revealed things hidden in the darkness. On the walls, new symbols appeared, glowing red against the white. They looked like warnings, maps, or perhaps curses. The floor cracked, revealing a deeper tunnel beneath them.

Arda stared at the crystal, unable to look away. His eyes reflected the glow, wide and unblinking. “It’s showing us something,” he murmured. “Maybe the way out.”

Mert grabbed his shoulder, shaking him. “No! It’s controlling you. Don’t listen!”

The whispers grew louder, overlapping, forming a single command:

“Choose. Light or darkness.”

The chamber shook violently. Dust fell from the ceiling, and the ground split wider. The crystal’s glow illuminated a staircase leading down into the unknown.

Sezen pulled herself up, trembling. “It wants us to decide. If we follow the light, we go deeper. If we stay in the dark, maybe we survive.”

Arda’s face was pale, his voice hollow. “The message said not to trust the light. But what if the darkness is worse?”

The three of them stood at the edge of the crack, staring at the staircase glowing below. The shelter waited, silent but alive, demanding their choice.

Vocabulary:

  • mesmerized = büyülenmiş

  • pulse = nabız gibi ışık yaymak

⚖️ Page 8 – The Choice

The glowing staircase stretched downward like a path into another world. The crystal’s light illuminated every step, making the descent look almost inviting. Yet the warning echoed in their minds: “Do not trust the light.”

Sezen clutched Arda’s arm. “We can’t go down there. The radio told us not to.” Her voice cracked, filled with fear.

Mert shook his head, sweat dripping from his forehead. “If we stay here, we’ll die. The shelter is collapsing. Look at the cracks!” He pointed at the walls, which trembled with each pulse of the crystal. Dust fell like snow, covering their hair and shoulders.

Arda stood between them, torn. His heart raced, his mind spinning. “What if the light is the only way out? What if the warning is a trick?”

Sezen’s eyes filled with tears. “Or what if the warning is the truth? What if the light leads us deeper, where there’s no escape?”

The whispers grew louder, overlapping until they became unbearable.

“Choose. Choose. Choose.”

Arda closed his eyes, trying to silence the voices. He remembered the door slamming shut, the footsteps, the knock. Everything felt like a test, a cruel game designed to break them.

Finally, he opened his eyes. “We can’t stay here. We have to decide.”

Mert stepped forward, his face pale but determined. “I’ll go first. If the light kills me, at least you’ll know.”

Sezen grabbed his hand. “No! Don’t leave us.”

But Mert pulled away, placing his foot on the first glowing step. The crystal pulsed, brighter than ever, and the staircase seemed to breathe. The air grew hotter, pressing against their skin.

Arda and Sezen watched as Mert descended slowly, each step echoing like thunder. His shadow stretched unnaturally across the walls, twisting into shapes that didn’t belong to him.

Halfway down, he turned back, his face illuminated by the glow. “It’s safe,” he called. “I think… I think this is the way.”

But his voice sounded strange, hollow, as if it came from somewhere else. Sezen shivered. “That’s not Mert’s voice,” she whispered.

Arda’s stomach twisted. He looked at Sezen, then at the staircase. The shelter trembled again, demanding their choice.

Would they follow Mert into the light, or stay behind in the darkness?

Mert’s figure disappeared slowly as he descended the glowing staircase. The crystal pulsed with each of his steps, sending waves of light across the chamber. Arda and Sezen watched in silence, their hearts pounding. The shelter seemed to breathe with them, alive and waiting.

Sezen clutched Arda’s sleeve. “Something’s wrong. That’s not Mert anymore. His voice… it sounded empty.”

Arda’s jaw tightened. He wanted to believe Mert was safe, but deep inside, doubt gnawed at him. “We can’t leave him alone. If this is the way out, we have to follow.”

The whispers grew louder, overlapping until they became unbearable.

“Choose. Choose. Choose.”

The words pressed against their skulls, forcing them to act. Arda took Sezen’s hand. “We’ll go together.”

Step by step, they descended. The staircase felt endless, spiraling downward into the unknown. The light grew stronger, burning their eyes, but they couldn’t stop. The air grew hotter, heavy with the smell of metal and ash.

Halfway down, Sezen stumbled. Arda caught her, pulling her close. “Stay with me,” he whispered.

Finally, they reached the bottom. The chamber below was vast, larger than any they had seen before. The walls glowed faintly, covered in symbols that shifted like living things. In the center stood Mert — but he was different. His eyes glowed with the same white light as the crystal, and his face was expressionless.

Sezen gasped. “Mert… what happened to you?”

Mert turned slowly, his voice hollow. “The light showed me the truth. It showed me what survival means.”

Arda stepped forward cautiously. “What truth?”

Mert raised his hand. The crystal floated above his palm, pulsing violently. “The shelter is alive. It feeds on fear. It tests us. Only those who embrace the light can escape.”

Sezen shook her head. “No. The radio warned us. The light isn’t salvation — it’s a trap.”

The chamber trembled, dust falling from the ceiling. The whispers grew louder, now forming a single command:

“Submit to the light.”

Arda’s heart raced. He looked at Mert, then at Sezen. One of them believed the light was salvation, the other believed it was death. The shelter demanded a choice, and there was no turning back.

The chamber shook violently, dust raining down from the ceiling. The glowing crystal pulsed like a beating heart, filling the air with unbearable light. Arda and Sezen stood frozen, their eyes locked on Mert. He was no longer the friend they knew — his face was pale, his eyes glowing white, his voice hollow.

“Submit to the light,” he commanded.

Sezen’s heart pounded. She pulled Arda’s arm. “Don’t listen! He’s not Mert anymore. The shelter has taken him.”

Arda’s mind raced. Every warning, every whisper, every step had led them here. The radio’s voice echoed in his memory: “Do not trust the light.” Yet the staircase, the crystal, even Mert himself insisted the light was the only way out.

The shelter trembled again, the walls cracking wider. A deep rumble filled the chamber, like the growl of something ancient and alive. The whispers grew louder, overlapping until they became a single scream:

“Choose!”

Arda looked at Sezen . Her eyes were filled with fear, but also determination. “We stay in the dark,” she said firmly. “That’s the only way to survive.”

Mert stepped closer, the crystal floating above his hand. “If you refuse, you’ll die here. The shelter will consume you.”

Arda clenched his fists. “Maybe. But at least we’ll die ourselves — not as puppets of the light.”

The crystal pulsed violently, sending a wave of blinding radiance across the chamber. Sezen screamed, covering her eyes. Arda shielded her, holding her close. The light swallowed everything, erasing the walls, the floor, even the air.

Then — silence.

When Arda opened his eyes, the chamber was gone. He and Sezen stood in complete darkness, no walls, no ceiling, no sound. Only emptiness.

Sezen whispered, “Are we… dead?”

Arda shook his head slowly. “No. We chose the dark. This is the test. Maybe this is survival.”

From somewhere far away, faint footsteps echoed. A door creaked open. A thin line of light appeared in the distance, glowing faintly.

Sezen grabbed his hand. “Do we go?”

Arda stared at the light, his heart heavy. The radio’s warning echoed once more in his mind: “Do not trust the light.”

He took a deep breath. “No. We wait.”

The line of light flickered, then vanished. The darkness remained, silent and endless.

The shelter had made its choice.

TÜRKÇESİ

🕯️ 1. Sayfa – Kapanan Kapı

Yağmur, gümüş iğneler gibi yere düşüyordu. Arda, Sezen ve Mert, ormanın arkasındaki eski sığınağın önünde durdular. Giriş paslı demirden yapılmıştı; yosun tutmuş, yılların izini taşıyordu.

“Emin misin burası olduğuna?” diye sordu Sezen , montunun yakasını kaldırarak.

Arda başını salladı. “Haritadaki yer burası. Sığınak savaş zamanında yapılmış. Onlarca yıldır kimse girmemiş.”

Mert gergin bir kahkaha attı. “Tam bir korku hikayesi mekânı.”

Üçü birlikte kapıyı itti. Metal kapı inledi, sonra yavaşça açıldı. İçerisi karanlık, soğuk ve pas kokuyordu. El fenerlerinin ışığı duvarlardaki çatlakları ve kırık boruları ortaya çıkardı.

Bir anda kapı arkalarında hızla kapandı — GÜM! Ses koridorda yankılandı.

Sezen irkildi. “Sen mi kapattın?”

Arda fısıldadı. “Hayır… kendi kendine kapandı.”

Üçü birbirine baktı. Sessizlik, havadan daha ağırdı.

Mert kapıyı çekmeye çalıştı ama kıpırdamadı. “Sıkışmış,” dedi nefes nefese.

Arda etrafa baktı. “Başka bir çıkış olmalı. Acil çıkış falan.”

Ama içten içe hiçbiri buna inanmıyordu. Sığınak onları yutmuştu.

Sezen’in el feneri titredi, ışık küçülüp büyüdü. “Ya fısıltı doğruysa?” dedi korkuyla. “Ya ışık güvenli değilse?”

Koridor sanki nefes alıyordu.

📻 3. Sayfa – Radyo

Sezen'in nefesi kesildi. “Aynı ses,” dedi fısıldayarak.

Mert kaşlarını çattı. “Burada elektrik yok.

“Dur, Arda! Dokunma!”

Radyo tekrar konuştu, bu kez sürekli tekrarlayarak:

“Işığa güvenme… Işığa güvenme…”

Sözler odanın içinde yankılandı, lanet gibi.

Mert öfkeyle radyoyu kavradı. “Kim konuşuyor? Ne istiyorsun?” diye bağırdı.

Radyo sustu. Ardından uzun, kırık bir iç çekiş duyuldu.

Arda’nın yüzü bembeyaz oldu. “Bu sadece bir makine değil. Biri — ya da bir şey — bizi uyarıyor.”

Sezen’in el feneri yine titredi.

O anda koridordan ayak sesleri geldi. Yavaş, ağır, kararlı adımlar…

Üçü birden dondu. Ses kapının önünde durdu. Ardından tek bir tok sesi yankılandı — kapıya vurulmuştu.

Oda sessizliğe gömüldü. Kutunun sembolleri hâlâ parlıyordu.

🚪 5. Sayfa – Gizli Geçit

Kapıya vurulan tok ses hâlâ kulaklarında yankılanıyordu. Hiçbiri hareket etmeye cesaret edemedi. Sessizlik ağırlaştıkça nefes almak bile zorlaştı.

Birden Sezen’in gözleri duvardaki eski bir postere takıldı.

Mert’in silüeti merdivenlerden aşağıya doğru kayboluyordu.

Arda Sezen’in elini tuttu. “Beraber gidelim.”

Sezen sendeledi, Arda onu tuttu. “Dayan,” dedi.

Sonunda aşağıya vardılar. Geniş bir oda açıldı önlerinde. Duvarlar sembollerle kaplıydı, semboller canlıymış gibi kıpırdanıyordu. Odanın ortasında Mert duruyordu. Ama artık tanıdıkları Mert değildi. Gözleri kristal gibi parlıyordu, yüzünde hiçbir ifade yoktu.

Sezen korkuyla geri çekildi. “Mert… sana ne oldu?”

Mert’in sesi boş ve yankılıydı: “Işık bana gerçeği gösterdi. Sığınak canlı. Korkuyla besleniyor. Sadece ışığı kabul edenler kurtulur.”

Arda öne çıktı. “Radyo ışığına güvenmeyin,” dedi. Sen ışığın kölesi oldun.”

Mert kristali havaya kaldırdı. Odanın sembolleri daha da parladı. “Karanlık sizi yutar. Işık tek kurtuluş.”

Sezen başını salladı. “Hayır. Bu bir tuzak.”

Oda titredi, fısıltılar tek bir emir haline geldi:

“Işığa teslim olun.”

Arda ve Sezen birbirine baktılar. Karar vermek zorundaydılar.

Oda şiddetle sallanıyordu. Kristalin ışığı gözleri kör edecek kadar parlıyordu. Mert, ışığın kölesi olmuş gibi, boş gözlerle kristali havada tutuyordu.

“Teslim olun,” dedi yankılı bir sesle.

Sezen Arda’ya sarıldı. “Hayır! Bu bir tuzak. Radyo bizi uyardı.”

Arda’nın zihni parçalanıyordu. Bir yanda ışık, kurtuluş gibi görünüyordu; diğer yanda fısıltılar, karanlığın tek güvenli yol olduğunu söylüyordu.

Duvarlardaki semboller titreşiyordu, zemindeki çatlaklar büyüyordu. Sığınak nefesini tutmuş gibiydi, onların kararını bekliyordu.

Arda gözlerini kapadı. “Biz ışığa teslim olmayacağız,” dedi kararlı bir sesle.

Sezen başını salladı. “Karanlığı seçiyoruz.”

O anda kristal çığlık attı, ışık patladı. Oda tamamen beyaza büründü. Arda ve Sezen birbirine sarıldı. Sonra — sessizlik.

Gözlerini açtıklarında hiçbir şey yoktu. Ne oda, ne duvar, ne Mert. Sadece sonsuz bir karanlık.

Sezen fısıldadı: “Yaşıyor muyuz?”

Arda derin bir nefes aldı. “Bilmiyorum. Ama kendi seçimimizi yaptık.”

Uzakta bir kapı gıcırtıyla açıldı. İnce bir ışık çizgisi göründü. Ama bu kez Arda geri çekildi. “Hayır. Bekleyeceğiz.”

Işık titredi, sonra söndü. Karanlık kaldı.

Sığınak kararını vermişti.
